Capri: the jewel of the Gulf of Naples
Among the most fascinating places in the Gulf of Naples, the island of Capri has always been one of the most beloved destinations for travelers, artists, and celebrities. Located opposite the Sorrento Peninsula and nestled in the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Capri captivates with its timeless charm, sun-drenched landscape, and a Mediterranean climate that makes it perfect in every season.
Already famous in the 19th century thanks to the discovery of the spectacular Blue Grotto, the island became the symbol of the “dolce vita” in the 1950s—an exclusive location capable of enchanting visitors with its natural beauty, millennial history, and elegant atmosphere.
The best way to discover Capri is by sea: a boat tour allows you to admire the many caves surrounding it, including the iconic Blue Grotto, famous for its unique play of blue light. A trip up Mount Solaro, the island’s highest peak, is also a must; it is nicknamed the “cloud catcher” for the spectacle it offers, especially at dawn. It can be reached on foot or comfortably by chairlift from Anacapri, where the view spans the entire gulf all the way to Mount Vesuvius.
After your excursion, a stop at one of Anacapri’s typical small restaurants allows you to taste local specialties. In the afternoon, we recommend a visit to Villa San Michele, the evocative house-museum of Swedish writer Axel Munthe, featuring a unique viewpoint overlooking the sea.
The tour continues in the famous Piazzetta di Capri, the beating heart of the island’s social life: a drink at the outdoor tables is a ritual not to be missed. From here, strolling along Via Camerelle, you enter the luxury shopping street, home to high-end designer boutiques and glittering window displays.
The journey concludes with a walk to the viewpoint overlooking the majestic Faraglioni—three imposing rock formations rising from the sea just a few meters from the coast, among the most photographed scenes in the world.
Hotel Scapolatiello is the ideal starting point for this unforgettable experience: just a few minutes’ drive from the port of Salerno, where hydrofoils depart daily, conveniently connecting the mainland to the island of Capri.
